“A renaissance party,” Jack commented dryly. “I wonder what made you think this particular theme.”
Vincent smiled. “You’d be surprised where I get my inspiration from.”
“Well, at least there’s no more public spanking,” Jack replied. “I’ve seen far more of Larry than I ever needed to.”
“I'm just glad you guys fixed it before the DOD decided that we were all lost causes and tried to destroy the town."
"You and me both."
"We were fish!," a pushy girl Jack remembered from the school science fair pushed past him, talking to her two little friends. "How come everybody else got to be cool and we were carp?"
"Oh yeah," Jack said. "Back to normal."
"So...when’s Fargo going to be done fixing your house?”
“He says a couple more days at least. Apparently Dactylos’s formula really did some damage to the support beams.”
“You staying with Nathan?” Vincent prodded.
Jack rolled his eyes. “No I’m sleeping at the office. Nathan’s engaged to Allison, remember?”
“Have you talked to him since…” Vincent made a vague gesture in the air with his hand. “…you know?”
“No. There doesn’t seem to be a point,” Jack said morosely, looking over at Nathan and Allison smiling and hugging each other. “I think I’m going to turn in early. I don’t feel much like partying.”
Vincent gave him a pitying look as Jack navigated around the crowd in Carpe Diem and towards the door only to find someone holding the door closed. He looked up and into Nathan’s eyes.
“Where are you going?”
“Over to the office,” Jack replied.
Nathan just stared at him.
“For what?” NathaI'm jn asked.
“Your engagement to Allison.” Jack looked back to the woman in question, seeing her chatting with Henry. “I forgot to say it before, but congratulations.”
“We’re not engaged. Not anymore – it was a stupid thing to do, trying to go backwards instead of getting on with our lives.”
“Oh,” Jack said, feeling hope flood through his veins. “So what does that mean for us?”
“It means you’re not going to sleep in a jail cell when I have a perfectly nice bed back at my place.”Jack smiled and in front of half the town and his ex-wife, Nathan kissed him.
